EA Digital Illusions CE just announced about new Battlefield series game called "Battlefield Heroes". Its' a cartoon-style shooting game, which combines classic Battlefield series games gameplay with some brand-new innovations.

First and most noticeable innovation is entirely changed graphic engine, which is now based on cartoon-style. This surely removes a feel of seriousness and also adds some fun to the whole gameplay. Game will be released as third-person shooter, but as developers said, if first-person role will be wanted, it will maybe added in later updates.

As developers announced, game will be free to play. This means that you will be able to download this game for free. Revenue will be provided from advertisement and micropayments. Players will be able to pay to get some new stuff, like avatars, characters armament icons etc. Whatever it be, micropayments won't give any advantages to players in the game. If someone has sceptical opinion on advertisements in the game - I can soothe you. As developers said, no advertisements will be shown while playing. Advertisements only appears when launching the game and while turning it off.

Another innovation that game provides is Heroes creation. With help of modern customisation system, you will be able to create your own, unique character of each class.

Gameplay hasn't changed a lot. Like previous Battlefield series games, "Battlefield Heroes" also is based on "ticket system". Each team, at the start of the round, will be provided with 50 tickets and 1 flag. To get tickets, team needs to kill opponents or capture more flag than opposing army. Players will be able to choose from 2 different armies - National Army and Royal Army. Like in previous games, in "Battlefield Heroes" dominate red and blue colours. "Battlefield Heroes" also has class system, but main difference is that there will be only 3 classes: Soldiers, Gunners and Commandos.

Developers said that match-making feature will keep balance in the game. Before each round, teams will be grade by taking into experience point each player gets after each round. Also, players will no longer be able to pick their spawning points. Game spawning system will spawn players as close the battlefield, as it possible. Also, spawning time was reduced from 15 seconds to 5 seconds.

Base to the last known facts, game should be released somewhere in April of 2009.
