Like all others Battlefield series games, Battlefield 2142 is FPS(First Person Shooter) video game too. Battlefield 2142 is fifth game in this series games list if we sort it by release date. Game was released in 2006, October 17. Game creators and developers is the same like in previous 4 Battlefield series games. Publishers - Electronic Arts(EA), developers - Digital Illusions CE (DICE). Main difference in Battlefield 2142 to compare with other this series games is that game place you not in the past or present, but in the future. In the 22th century, 2142 years, to be exact.

Game modes

Game contains 2 different modes - Conquest and Titan. Conquest mode is almost the same like in previous this series games, but Titan mode is something different, something unique and special.

About Conquest Mode

Before start of the round, both teams gets the same amount of tickets. Every player tries to take a corresponding actions to prevent from loosing tickets and to make opponents team loose them. Tickets can be lost if team member dies. Every death equals -1 ticket. But as we all know, every dead character can be revived with help of defibrillator. In Battlefield 2142 defibrillator is used by Assault type character, not by Medic type as it was in previous Battlefield games. If player is revived within 15 seconds after his death(critical wound), players team will not loose ticket, but his killer will get kill point anyway. Another way to loose or get tickets is spawning points capturing. At the beginning of the round, both teams gets the same amount of tickets and the same amount of spawning points. Every map contains different ammount of spawning points. Amount of these spawining locations depends on map size and it's style. Capturing neutral or opponent owned spawning points, makes your team to "steal" tickets from opponents team. Number of "stole" tickets dependns on difference between teams owned spawning points.

Match can be lost in 2 ways. First, if team amount of tickets reach zero or if team have no spawning points and no alive soldiers.

Conquest Mode Types

Conquest mode contains 6 different mode types. Take a look at short view about each of them.

No vehicles. If you play this type of Conquest mode, no vehicles will be spawned in whole map. Not even stationary defense systems can't be used while playing this type of mode.

Head-on. Playing this mode, teams will not get the same start conditions. One team(PAC) gets 1 uncapturable flag and other team(EU) gets no flags at all. All other flags on the map is neutral. In fact, all over conditions is like in simple conquest mode - to decrease or increase team's tickets amount, team needs to capture more flags than opposing team does.

Assault. While playing this mode, one team(PAC) gets one or two uncaturable flags(number of flags PAC gets depends on map) and other team(EU) gets all other flags. Also, PAC gets more tickets than EU to make this game type fair.

Conquest Assault. This type of mode is similar to simple Assault mode, but while playing this mode, PAC gets uncapturable titan instead of getting uncapturable flag and EU gets all flags on the map and titan, which can be captured by opposing team. Both team's, PAC and EU titans are immobile.

Assault Lines. This mode is similar to Assault type, but one uncapturable flag is owned by EU, not by PAC. And of course, PAC gets all other flags. Also, PAC gets one and most important flag, called - Home Base, which can be captured only if all other flags are owned by EU. Home Base is the key flag for both teams in this type of mode.

Double Assault Lines. Both of the teams gets the Home Base flag, which can't be captured until there is no other flags owned by opposing team. Both teams start only with this flag, all other flags are neutral.

About Titan Mode

Titan is highly armored and armed flying war machine. Titan armament contains 6 weapons - 4 anti-ground system guns and 2 anti-air system guns. Both systems can be used by any player in the team, while Titan can be used only by team's commander. Titan also has force shield, which helps Titan to protect himself from common single enemies weapons fire. Force shield makes Titan almost untouchable and only anti-Titan missiles can destroy force shield. Once force shield is destroyed, Titan can be destroyed. Anyway, titan still untouchable from common enemies weapons. There is only 2 ways to destroy Titan when force shield is eliminated.

First way. Players needs to destroy 4 security systems, which is protecting main reactor. Once last security console is destroyed, reactor will explode after 30 seconds.

Second way. Titan can be destroyed by using anti-Titan missiles launcher, which can destroy Titan's force shield. Anyway, players need fairly many anti-Titan's missiles to destroy Titan's hull.

Titan's main reactor and it's security system is inside the Titan, so opposing team needs to get inside Titan. But they can't just get into, there are only 3 ways to get in it. Also, you should have in mind that you can be boarded to the Titan only once it's force shield is destroyed.

First way. Game vehicle, APC, can launch device, called assault pod. With it's help, players can easily get inside opposing team's Titan. Assault pod can be launched from other Titan too. Also, you can be boarded into Titan only if you aren't using any vehicle.

Second way. You can be dropped by air-drop with help of your squad leader. To be exact, with help of his spawn beacon signal.

Third way. Game contains various of vehicles and some of them, like in other Battlefield series games, have only transport opportunity. You need to fly with transport ship over the Titan and land on the top of it. Then, load all your company inside.

Maps

Battlefield 2142 contains 16 different maps. Like previous series games, Battlefield 2142 also can load up to 64 players in map. Number of player depends on map size and it's style. Maps take place at 4 different continents - Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. Also, each map has it's own game mode and mode's type, so you can't play Titan mode in all maps, but you can play conquest mode in any map you want. But map contains only 1 conquest mode's type. Let's take a look at maps and what game modes and types it contains, and which - don't.

Minsk - Assault type. Titan mode is allowed.
Belgrade - Head-on type. Titan mode isn't allowed.
Fall of Berlin - Assault type. Titan mode isn't allowed.
Verdun - Head-on type. Titan mode is allowed.
Cerbere Landing - Assault type. Titan mode isn't allowed.
Camp Gibraltar - Assault type. Titan mode isn't allowed.
Suez Canal - Assault type. Titan mode is allowed.
Tunis Harbor - Head-on type. Titan mode isn't allowed.
Shuhia Taiba - Head-on type. Titan mode is allowed.
Sidi Power Plant - Head-on type. Titan mode is allowed.
Operation Shingle - Assault type. Titan mode isn't allowed.
Bridge at Remagen - Assault lines type. Titan mode is allowed.
Port Bavaria - Assault lines type. Titan mode is allowed.
Liberation of Leipzig - Assault lines type. Titan mode isn't allowed.
Highway Tampa - Double Assault lines type. Titan mode is allowed.
Wake Island 2142 - Double Assault lines type. Titan mode is allowed.

Characters Classes

If Battlefield 2 contains 7 different classes, so Battlefield 2142 contains less amount of choices - only 4 classes are allowed to choose from. Each class has 2 different weapons - primary and secondary, and gets the same knife, like in all other thisseries games.

Assault

Primary weapon: SCAR 11 AR
Secondary weapon: MHUB-21

Assault is one of the most useful class in Battlefield 2. It is a strong fighter class, with smoke grenade, powerful assault rifle, which includes shotgun and grenade launcher opportunity and most important thing, that this class also has defibrillator and medic kits. It's like Assault and Medic classes from Battlefield 2 combined in a one.

Support

Primary weapon: BIANCHI LMG
Secondary weapon: AHUB-31

This class hasn't changed much since Battlefield 2. It still has the same functions and the same opportunities, like it has in game's forerunner. Same light machines gun as primary weapon is increased in one way. Now it's gets moreaccuracy if you fire it for a longer period of time. Also, this class characters contains EPM grenades, which can reveal Recon type characters, while they are on invisibility mode.

Recon

Primary weapon: MORRETTI SR4 SNIPER
Secondary weapon: none

It's a typical sniper character as it used in game's forerunners. In fact, this sniper class character is even weaker, because it have no secondary weapon and no other kits. But Recon can became really powerful if players unlock his abilities. One of them is "Active Camo", which makes character invisible.

Engineer

Primary weapon: MITCHELL AV-18
Secondary weapon: TURCOTTE RAPID SMG / HOFF-3000

Engineer in Battlefield 2142 is better known for it's anti-tank opportunities. Grenade launchers, various types of mines, defusing devices is something that came from Battlefield 2 Anti-Tank class. But Engineer also do it's main function - repairing vehicles. But, in fact, this function isn't as important as it is in Battlefield 2.

Classes Unlocks

Each class is pretty "low numbered" in weapons, devices or other kits. That's why game creators, DICE to be exact, put in game something that makes players to seek higher rank. That "something" is unlocks. Each class has to reach corresponding amount of points to get a first unlock, bigger part of point to reach second unlock and so on. After reaching a amount of points when you can get unlock, you need to choose one from many of them. Game contains 50 unlocks per 4 classes, but some of unlocks are suitable not for classes or single characters, but for squad.

Assault Class Unlocks

ADVANCED MAGAZINE. This unlock increase captivity of your clips. No matter what weapon it is, rocket launcher, assault rifle or simple pistol - clip size will be increased.

CM3-N RADAR GRENADE. After this grenade explodes, you will be able to see any traps your enemies made for you. It means that you will clearly see mines or other explodes in small radius for a short period of time.

AED-6 DEFIBRILLATOR. Simple defibrillator made to be used in future, in 2142 years to be exact. It uses other, more advanced microprocessor, which allows you to revive critical wounded teammate a bit faster.

SMK-1 GRENADE. Simple smokes grenade. Most of the time used for offensive actions, such as cover creation.

BAUR H-AR. A improved version of primary Assault class weapon. It's more accuracy and deals higher damage. Also, it is useful in long range distances, like SCAR 11 AR is in short range distances. Moreover, it has morecapacitive clips, to compare with SCAR 11 AR.

VOSS L-AR. Lighter version of SCAR 11 AR. It's created for supportive actions and tactical manoeuvre, where high speed is necessary. Also, highcapacity of clips allow VOSS L-AR to fire for a long period of time without reload.

PK-74 AR-ROCKET. This weapon is result of combination of rocker launcher and shotgun. This combination makes this weapon useful in short range distances. Anyway, this weapon is pretty weak in long range distancesagainst single, mobile and fast units. Whatever it be, it's primary purpose is vehicles destroying.

Support Class Unlocks

IDS-1 INFANTRY SONAR. This device is used by Support class, but it's important and used by whole team. Support characters can place this device anywhere on the map and if someone of the opposing team get to close to IDS-1, all team's players will be warned by ping on the mini-map.

CLARK 12-RDX. Unique and interesting weapon - this is how we CLARK 12-RDX can be described. Weapon fires a explosive bullet, which explodes once it gets near any enemies unit. This makes CLARK effective in both - long and short range distances.

V5 EMP GRENADE. This type of grenades isn't effective against single characters, in fact, it don't deal any damage to them. EMP grenades is created to disable enemies vehicles. Once grenade hit any vehicle, it gets slowed for short period of time. Also, it damages and destroy other electronic devices, as infantry sonars.

CLARK 15-B SHOTGUN. Impressively designed weapon, which bullets produce laser pattern in it's way. Weapon is most effective against light armored infantry and only in short range distances.

GANZ HMG. Typical heavy machine gun with double-magazine feeder. With help of captive clips, weapon can fire for a long period of time. Moreover, this weapon is pretty accuracy to compare with other heavy machine guns in the game. High damage is one of general weapon's properties.

IPS SHIELD. This device is created to defend infantries, with temporary shield, which is created after using IPS shield. Device can protect infantry from every attack, but it lasts for a pretty short period of time. Moreover, this device can be used to protect vehicles or infantry boarded to it.

TL-S1C CAMO UPGRADE. Device increase Active Camo period of time, in which Recon can be invisible.

DS-22 SNIPER DECOY. This decoy device creates a mirage ghost of Recon class infantry to lure enemies into traps. Once DS-22 is activated, enemies can start firing at mirage and you can easily spot the fire source and kill target with your deadly MORRETI SR-4 SNIPER.

RDX DEMOPAK. This is remotely detonated mine. It's pretty similar to C4, but there is one difference. Once Demopak explodes, it releases a deadly chemical, which can damage those enemies, which even wasn't close explode source.

LAMBERT CARBINE. Old design assault rifle with brand-new technologies inside the weapon. Modern double-magazine feeder, fast reload opportunity and fast firing rate allows Recon infantry to shoot at fast rate for a long period of time.

APM. APM is ,ine created not for vehicles, but for personal infantry units. Once infantry run over the mine, it explodes and sow a death all around. Anyway, APM can be easily detonated if it is spotted by enemies.

IT-33 OPTICAL CAMOUFLAGE. One of the best devices in whole game, which allows Recon infantry to became invisible for a pretty short period of time.

Engineer Class Unlocks

SMG CLIP EXPANSION. Simple clip expansion, which expands SMG weapons magazine capacity.

MMB-5 MOTION MINE BAIT. With help of this device, Engineer can defuse mines in more advanced and easier way. He can throw MMB-5 in to the battlefield and it will pull all nearby mines near it. After short period of time, MMB-5 explodes along with all mines there was near.

KOENIG H-AVR. Anti-tank weapon, which fires high speed projectiles, which cut a armor of a unit and deals massive damage to the target. Created to destroy vehicles, but can be used against infantry too.

PDS-1. Sonar device created to detect any vehicles in pretty long radius. Once it used, it will show all vehicles in corresponding radius to all squad member in mini-map.

II-29 MOTION MINE. Nonstandard mine, which seek enemies vehicles once it is threw. It explodes after getting under the target vehicle.

II-14 EMP MINE. Works in the same way, like EMP grenades does. It just release bigger electronic field, which slows vehicles for a longer period of time once any vehicle gets near the EMP mine.

MITCHELL SAAW 86. One of the best anti-tank weapons in the game. Pretty slow firing rate and bullets speed doesn't matter, because this weapon deals best damage in whole game.

This is game is still played and by some of the player is nominated with "Best Battlefield series game" title. Don't know how much truth there is, so I let you to decide it by your own. If you wish to accept this challenge, game costs about 20$ any any market.
